For many years, Brenda has volunteered at LUCY in various capacities. She helps run the Mentor program, provides leadership retreat housing, and hosts youth for summer shore days, to name a few. She also served on the LUCY Board of Advisors until recently. After her term, Brenda took on the role of volunteer coordinator to continue her involvement and assist with the growing number of volunteers who support LUCY and Camden’s youth.
Bill Leahy, Jr
Ignatian Volunteer Corps, Volunteer
Bill became aware of a volunteer opportunity at LUCY Outreach through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps. IVC is a national Jesuit volunteer program that promotes volunteer service and spiritual growth for retired persons desiring to give back. Currently, Bill is serving LUCY Outreach 16 hours a week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
After graduating from St. Joseph’s University in 1967, Bill had a distinguished career in sales and sales management positions with IBM, Moore Business Forms, Sallie Mae, and Oasis Outsourcing.
Bill and his wife Kay will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2018. They have 5 children and 10 grandchildren and reside in Mount Laurel, NJ.
I am excited about the opportunity to work in Camden and especially with the LUCY youth. I am looking forward to seeing firsthand the progress being made in the city. Being able to do that through the eyes of the children and young adults is a bonus. I hope a year from now they will see me as a friend and a grandfather type.
In 2003, Suellen and her family created the Patrick’s Dreams Foundation which encourages teenagers and young adults to make a lifelong commitment to volunteering. In addition to remaining active in the Foundation, she has been a long time volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia and Ronald McDonald House in Camden. Suellen is also a member of the Saint Joseph’s Prep Mothers’ Club and has served on the Virtua Mount Holly Hospital Foundation Gala Committee. She has planned and organized many fundraising events including Golf Tournaments, Fashion Shows and Dinner Dances. With such extensive experience it’s no wonder why LUCY’s asked Suellen to assist with volunteer coordination this upcoming year!
Suellen first came to LUCY in the summer of 2015 through the Graduate Mentor Program, and has since been drawn in by the seniors and graduates, becoming an active mentor herself. In observing the needs of the organization, Suellen recently assumed the position of Volunteer Coordinator to help recruit and support 200+ volunteers, organize programs, and assist the LUCY staff. With excitement, we welcome her to the family!
