Leader of the Month

Bill became aware of a volunteer opportunity at LUCY Outreach through the Ignatian Volunteer Corps. IVC is a national Jesuit volunteer program that promotes volunteer service and spiritual growth for retired persons desiring to give back. Currently, Bill is serving LUCY Outreach 16 hours a week on Mondays and Tuesdays.

After graduating from St. Joseph’s University in 1967, Bill had a distinguished career in sales and sales management positions with IBM, Moore Business Forms, Sallie Mae, and Oasis Outsourcing.

Bill and his wife Kay will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2018. They have 5 children and 10 grandchildren and reside in Mount Laurel, NJ.

Bill has been a huge blessing to LUCY and its youth, especially the “little ones”. He has built incredible relationships in a short period of time and stepped out of his comfort zone on a daily basis to challenge himself to learn as much as he can about the city and it’s incredible families.

Within the past three months, Bill has worked with Carlos, a 5th grader struggling in school, tutoring him 4 hours per week, sat in on youth and graduate programming, including our Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, worked the wreath store, chaperoned trips, and even taken groups to their first 76ers game and St. Joseph’s University men’s basketball game, meaningful nights filled with memories that will stay with him for years to come.

Bill is currently planning his first youth night, as a lead staff member, and will be presenting “Best Practices of Communication” to encourage the youth to make eye contact, speak clearly and show mentors, jobs and colleges just how impressive they truly are.

On his first day Bill said, “I hope a year from now they will see me as a friend and a grandfather type.” They already do Bill! Thanks for blessing us with your presence this year and hopefully for many years to come!
