Sheyla Vazquez

Sheyla shares that during her first semester she faced some challenges but they taught her valuable lessons and helped her to become more independent. She cites that she improved her time management, became more organized, and learned something new every day from others and their cultures. One highlight was reading a verse from the Bible during mass, which was one of the best experiences I’ve had in college. It motivated me to keep going, and I’m glad I did.

A low point was losing a friend from high school, to suicide, which made it difficult to focus on my studies and still manage to get all my work done. Chemistry Lab was a killer- imagine being there for 3 hours- but she passed! Some of the clubs that Sheyla enjoyed were being a part of CASA- a group assisting underrepresented Scholars at Villanova in becoming the best version of themselves, while accessing lots of great resources, being on the taekwondo team, Lazo (Latin American Community), Nova mission and ministry (Worship, advocacy, education, and spiritual growth).

Shey wants to say: “I am grateful for the support I’ve received that has helped me reach where I am today. I am thankful for receiving a scholarship from the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, which enabled me to pay my school tuition balance without worrying about so many college expenses. Additionally, I am thankful to have Kristin by my side, always there for me when I need her. THANK YOU SO MUCH, LUCY & LCOS. GO NOVA!”
