Marlen is excited to be back to the place that once helped her grow in so many ways! Marlen, a former graduate of LUCY, then known as “youth group”, was extremely involved in Saint Joseph Pro-Cathedral’s Religious Education for many years. She completed hundreds of volunteer hours throughout high school, giving back to her city and its youth. As a student and graduate of Camden Catholic High School, Marlen was undocumented, making it difficult and unaffordable to continue on with higher education and pursue her goal of becoming a nurse. Though a strong student at CCHS, and having received an acceptance to Rutgers, Marlen began working and started a family unable to pay for tuition. The mother of 3, (Rosie-9, Lily-5 and Melanie-3) she has balanced home life, and two full time jobs. Marlen has lived in Camden for over 10 years and knows that being part of LUCY will give her the opportunity to touch other youths’ lives, and provide love and support for her daughters, so they’re successful in the future. Stay tuned for Marlen’s upcoming college enrollment and the hundreds of lives she’ll impact join the LUCY staff permanently!
