LUCY’s Summer Program is designed to support working, low-income families during the non-school months. We eliminate stressors for parents and youth alike by providing a safe and supportive place for youth to be. Youth are able to find a safe space where they can be their true, authentic selves without judgement. At the same time, they are being exposed to exciting educational, social and service-oriented opportunities. These include clubs, day trips, speakers, workshops, overnights and service immersion experiences. 80 youth will attend service immersion trips and camps, where they will volunteer on average 100 service hours per youth.
The programming is divided into two separate camps:
8-week Summer Program for Teens (ages 10-19), daily
7-week LUCY littles Camp (ages 7-11), Monday-Friday
Service Immersion Trip Experiences (ages 7-19), 6 separate weeks
Summer Programming also includes two signature service trips:
US/Mexico Border Service Immersion Trip
Ages 16-19, 1-week overnight in June
This is a one-week service immersion trip to Si Podemos Camp in Chaparral, New Mexico. Attendees plan and run a children’s camp, visit the physical border region, and have hands-on learning experiences about immigration reform and challenges faced by undocumented families today.
Camp Bright Feathers Service Immersion Trip
Ages 12-21, 1-week overnight in August
This is a one-week overnight camp at YMCA of the Pines to serve children and families infected and affected by AIDS and HIV. The camp includes staying in a cabin, all meals and snacks, sports, boating, swimming, horse-back riding, ropes courses, arts & crafts, team-building activities, leadership development, a talent show, a dance, and more.
